Top 10 Photo Editing Apps

written by The Junior Nomads January 9, 2014
Top 10 Photo Editing Apps

We are firm believers in “What’s the point of travelling if you can’t share your adventures?” And thanks to the popularity of smartphones (such as our iPhone 5) and iPads, taking pictures on the go and sharing them with your audience is now easier than ever.

But there’s another – much more fun – side to photos on your smartphone, and that comes in the form of photo editing apps. There are literally thousands of apps out there, and our personal collection is well over 40, but we do have a few favourites that consistently do what we’d like them to do and help turn a good photo into a great photo – or collage of photos.

Here are our favourites:

1. Snapseed

Cost: Free. No in-app purchase costs.
Why We Like It: Tinker with your photos as much or as little as you like, including auto correct. Heaps of filters with adjustable settings. Apply frames to your finished product. The best thing about this app? The HDR Scape filter. Once you use it, your photos will come to life in a way you’ve not seen before, and you’ll be hooked – trust us!
Our Rating:
5/5

2. Smilebox

Cost: Free. No in-app purchase costs.
Why We Like It: Constantly updated with new designs, and existing designs for all occasions. Send animated images to friends. Transform your image with a simple frame or add additional pictures, text and animation
Our Rating: 4.5/5

3. PS Express

Cost: Free. In-app purchase costs for extra features.
Why We Like It: Nice filter effects. Creative image borders, though these do cost extra to purchase ($0.99).
Our Rating: 3.5/5
Link: https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/adobe-photoshop-express/id331975235?mt=8

4. Photo Editor

Cost: Free
Why We Like It: Apply effects. Add stickers. Paint and draw on your photos. Take HD photos.
Our Rating: 4/5
Link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photo-editor/id546821797?mt=8

5. Instavation

Cost: Free. In-app purchases costs for extra features.
Why We Like It: Add quotes and captions to your photos. Very easy to use.
Our Rating: 3/5
Link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/instavation/id734079520?mt=8

6. Colour Splash

Cost: Free
Why We Like It: Have fun with turning parts of your photo from colour into black-and-white. Make features stand out. Save multiple sessions so you can work on more than one photo at a time.
Our Rating: 4.5/5
Link: https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/color-splash/id304871603?mt=8

7. Video 2 Photo

Cost: $1.99
Why We Like It: Get a perfectly-timed photo from your video! Scroll through milli-seconds of video recordings and take a snapshot of that perfect moment. Never miss it again!
Our Rating: 5/5
Link: https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/video-2-photo-extract-still/id487353844?mt=8

8. InstaQuote

Cost: Free. In-app purchases costs for extra features.
Why We Like It: Numerous templates with full customisation. Create your own inspirational image quotes – great for social media sharing!

10. Memories On The Move

Cost: $3.99
