Bargara: The Point Resort

written by VickyA November 30, 2014

“Disappointing”

Location: 7/10
Cleanliness: 7/10
Staff: 3/10
Facilities: 5/10
Value for Money: OK if you’re stuck, but perhaps try somewhere else for the price.
Will We Return: No

CHECK-IN:
This room was booked by someone else on our behalf as a birthday present. We were advised (and received email confirmation) that early checkin at 10am was available, and a late checkout at 2pm two days later. Upon arriving at 11am, the female at reception said checkin wasn’t until 2pm. We said we had been advised early checkin was arranged, and she simply said our room wasn’t even ready, and that she would call us when it was, and that checkin was from 2pm. Went back to the car and found the email confirming our booking, which definitely said 10am, then went back into reception and showed the girl. She confirmed she had sent the email, but that it was a mistake, and that if we looked at the attachment (which we didn’t receive), the attachment would say checkin at 2pm. She said it was her mistake, but didn’t apologise or act sincere in any way. She was rude and blunt and made it clear that we would have to come back later. When we finally did checkin, we queried about the late checkin. It was clear that this hadn’t been entered into the system, as she then had to re-code our door key so we could stay later as previously arranged (and as confirmed in the email).

ROOM:
We were on the fifth floor in an ocean view room. Overall it was clean. We nearly slipped in the shower when we first went in, which we guessed was from the cleaning products in there – quite dangerous. The lounge cushions had stains on them which from the colour could have either been blood or chocolate. The fully self-contained kitchen was great, but the overall room layout is of an extremely poor design – if you had need for using the 6 seats at the table, there is no way you could without blocking the doorway leading into the bedrooms. And being a two bedroom suite, you need the large lounge which meant the dining table was pushed right against the kitchen bench the whole time. The bedroom was nice with modern bed covering, but the small old box TV up in the corner didn’t do much for the room. There was only one air-con remote. A Foxtel guide was provided but the TV wouldn’t pick up any Foxtel channels. Complimentary tea, coffee and sugar provided – no milk. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had both washing machine and dryer which could be handy for longer stays. The bathroom sink was big enough to wash a baby in. Free wifi is available.

THE RESORT:
The Resort is only a five-minute walk into Bargara and cafes, etc. so it is quite handy. There is only rocky beach directly opposite the resort. There is no on-site restaurant. It does advertise a pool and mini golf. The “Games Room” leaves a lot to be desired – it consists of a ping-pong table in the middle of the room with rusty legs, no net, looking somewhat out of shape and unused. The resort presentation from the front is quite nice.

OVERALL we were just very disappointed and wouldn’t stay again unless out of absolute necessity.
