Recharging in Style with The Bower at Broulee

written by The Junior Nomads June 23, 2017

After our short but sweet overnight stay at Kiama, in a little motel called Motel 617, we headed south in search of a couple of nights to just relax in peace and quiet, and we could not have asked for a better place than The Bower At Broulee, just 2.5 hours from Kiama. It’s marketed as “Recharge together in style” and that’s exactly what it does.

We explored just a little bit of the property during our stay, including down by what we call the ‘Wedding Pond’ which is perfect for weddings obviously or other group gatherings, but if you’re keen on a walk and want to see some wildlife, there are plenty of walking tracks. We could help ourselves to the large firewood stack, and the reception area has some books and DVDs if you feel so inclined, but it’s really not the sort of place you come to connect to technology at all. Everything about it screams relaxation, romance and rejuvenation. You won’t be bothered by room service during your stay, the property is designed for you to check in, receive the information you need, and then go away in privacy to enjoy your stay. There are multiple cabins on the property, but they are situated so that you have total privacy, and it felt like we were the only ones around during our stay. If you feel inclined to leave your spa haven, the beach is nearby, as are restaurants, but we figure – why would you want to leave? Wifi is available if needed, but we’d recommend it for basic things like checking emails, show off some photos on Facebook, and that’s it.

We stayed in the 2BR Bower Cabin (you can forget that there’s a second bedroom really, as you really don’t want to share in such a romantic place like this anyway), which was fully equipped with everything you need and want to have an extended stay, including full kitchen, decent size fridge, full laundry facilities (something we always appreciate when we travel!), plenty of lounge space, outdoor seating, and of course the divine spa that looks out to the bush and wood fireplace in the lounge area (make sure you bring some bubble bath, you just won’t want to leave the tub). There’s even bathrobes, slippers, chocolates on the pillow, and a delicious breakfast pack ready for whenever you feel like waking up to the day.

We really appreciated the small things like the coffee pod machine (with plenty of capsules) and T2 teabags. The underfloor heating in the bathroom and toilet was wonderful, especially in the middle of the night. The biggest standout point that you can’t get in very many places is an open air shower. It was so lovely to stand outside with crisp air and nature all around, but be under a steaming hot shower. So unique to the property, and the position is well thought out with privacy, we loved it.

If you’re after something a little bit different (not just to The Bower but to many accommodation types), then you’ll be interested in their American Airstream Trailer:

It is not far from anything that you might need like shops, beach, tours attractions at Mogo and Batemans Bay, but we’d recommend you come here to make the most of the peace and seclusion that the cabins offer. The surrounding bush and wildlife is too relaxing, if you’re like us, then you just won’t want to leave.

Mark and Sue were lovely, so welcoming and just wonderful hosts. Bower at Broulee is definitely the perfect place for couples to come and have a romantic break, honeymoon, babymoon, anniversary, birthdays, etc.

Would we return? In a heartbeat. It is up there with one of the best places we have stayed in all our travels, so relaxing and so well-thought out in terms of the privacy and inclusions in the cabins. Despite knowing there are plenty more adventures ahead of us, you will find it just as hard to leave this place!
