After six years of constant use and abuse of our Waeco CF60, thrown back and forth from the caravan to the back of the ute like a tradie’s shovel, we upgraded to the new Waeco CFX50 fridge/freezer. For the last three months travelling, the Waeco has been constantly used, pulled in and out of the Amarok at every campsite or caravan park. We have the Dometic fridge in the caravan and seeing that we like a lot of fresh foods, we have used the Waeco CFX50 non-stop as a freezer at a constant -11°C. Even sitting out under the awning of the caravan in the heat, it has never struggled to keep a constant negative temperature and all foods kept fresh and frozen.
The new design is a definite improvement on the old, with the interior offering more room than the older models. The overall weight is much lighter and easier to carry thanks to the spring-loaded handles. The inclusion of a rubber bung in the bottom of the main fridge section for draining is a great introduction for either those spills you may incur or just giving it the weekly clean out. The added USB Port on the end of the fridge is a terrific way of keeping the iPad or iPhone charged up or keeping in touch with the loved ones while away. A temperature setting ranging from +10°C to -22°C gives you an option to change your mind like a Melbourne weather pattern and be able to keep any product cool or freeze the steak until the next BBQ. We have many more environments to test the Waeco in with solar and battery packs etc. but with it’s performance so far, we are confident it will cope with anything we put it through.
