Hi Guys, I have only just stumbled upon your sites (Facebook and website) in response to a reply you posted on the Overlander 4WD magazines’ Facebook photo of the Amarok and Toyota comparison. I was immediately drawn to your statement of using the Amarok to tow a caravan with weight at the towing limit of the Amarok. I have been undertaking extensive research on the ideal towing vehicle for a decent van that is not a Land Cruiser or the like. I also have had a yearning for an auto Amarok for some time, but felt from the research I had done that the Amarok was just not up to the task of long distant towing of a 2.5 to 3 ton van over a variety of road surfaces, not just the black top. I was led to believe the ongoing strain on the 2ltr motor would shorten the life of the vehicle and restrict its performance. Your comments have now given me a new thread of hope. Is it possible to get more info from you regarding your experiences with the Amarok towing your van and any other observations you have on owning the Amarok and towing with it. Have heard some stories of Amarok woes and bad support from dealers and VW Australia as well. What has been your experience with dealers and servicing the vehicle. By the way, what year model is your Amarok. Thanks for your assistance, and have enjoyed your website and the YouTube videos. Enjoy your lifestyle while you can. Steve.
Can anybody tell me when towing 2.6 ton with a manual Amarillo what gear to be in when cruising?
It’s all to do with the tranny and I can get consistent opinions, cheers.
