It’s been years (and quite possibly never) since we ever really celebrated Australia Day, either on our own or with a group. In our past life, all it really meant was a public holiday that gave us a day off work and more time to get things done – we can’t recall when it actually meant a long weekend of relaxation or catching up with friends let alone actually celebrating what the day signified.
So this year was a treat for us, and we decided that we were really going to get into the spirit of things. We are very careful with money these days and particularly careful not to waste it on “things”. Normally, costumes or any kind of dress-up paraphernalia for a single day would be out of the question, but what’s the point of life too if you can’t have some fun every now and then – while still on a budget – so off we went on our shopping expedition. Where to? Big W in Bega, where everything sells for less! (and because there’s no other major store in the vicinity of where we are – Target Country doesn’t count!)
For less than $40, we ended up boardshorts and t-shirts, and thanks to some selected buying at Coles for traditional ANZAC day biscuits, we even scored some free Australia flag tattoos as well.
How did we look? Well, you can be the judge, but for the record, we had a blast!
