Waeco fridge – Six years old and still going strong

written by The Junior Nomads June 10, 2013

Approximately six years ago I worked for Talvor Motorhomes, one of Australia’s largest manufacturers of motorhomes and caravans. As the Procurement Manager, I was responsible for purchasing all products for the Motorhomes as well as supplier management, which included ensuring that the products we purchased were fit for use. During my time at Talvor, Waeco supplied me with a CF60 fridge/freezer and told me to road test it everywhere I could. So over the past six years, that’s exactly what we’ve done!

To the day, I still have the CF60 and it still works like brand new. We have travelled thousands of kilometres over the last six years and the Waeco is one item we have always been able to rely on no matter what the situation has been. The Waeco is a permanent fixture in the back of the 4WD when plugged up to 12V; it then comes out at every caravan park and is plugged into mains power. The CF60 works far better than our caravan fridge, and for that reason we keep all our expensive and perishable food items in the Waeco as it is the most trustworthy and reliable. It can be sitting in the car for a couple of weeks not being used and then cool down very quickly when needed. When we travel, I bring it into the house and load it up with all the goodies and then plug it into 12v in the car; within half an hour it is already cold enough to protect any foods in the fridge.

Over the years it has had bumps and scratches and been well and truly put through its paces, as I have never had a fridge cover on it, but it still has not had one issue. The internal bulb blew a couple of years ago and I haven’t bothered to replace it as there wasn’t a need, and the little cord that holds the lid also broke a while ago but other than those two tiny items, I could not fault the CF60 fridge from Waeco at all – solid, reliable and very hard-wearing, exactly what you want for long-term travel.
