If you’re unfortunate in that you can’t be living on the road like us, chances are you’ve had to store your caravan somewhere, perhaps for lengthy periods of time. But have you considered what happens when your van sits for extended periods, and do you check things over when you’re again ready to hit the road?
The Caravan Council of Australia has recently published a ‘Pre-Holiday Caravan Inspection List’ and is encouraging all caravan owners to check this list before hitting the road to ensure everything is inspected, serviced and in roadworthy condition to ensure safe travelling for you and everybody else on the road.
Some of the basics include:
– Ensure that your caravan or camper-trailer is fully legal and compliant.
– Ensure that your caravan or camper-trailer is in a good and safe condition.
– Ensure that your tow-vehicle is in a good and safe condition.
– Ensure that no ratings of your caravan or camper-trailer – or your tow-vehicle – are ever exceeded.
Whatever you do, if you don’t have the necessary skills and experience, don’t attempt repairs or modifications by yourself. You may be putting more than just your life on the line. Make sure any gas and electrical inspections and servicing is carried out by licensed gas-fitters and electricians only.
If you have any questions at all about the safety of your caravan or camper-trailer, always obtain professional advice from a recognised expert in the field.
Thanks to the Caravan Council of Australia for putting together these handy guides. Safe travels!
