Horseshoe Bay Holiday Park, South West Rocks

written by The Junior Nomads July 21, 2013

Dates of Stay 17 – 21 July 2013

Will We Return Yes

Rates Powered sites from $36.50. Ensuite cabins from $92.

Value for money Excellent. We stayed in a ensuite cabin during our time here and the views from our front balcony were second-to-none. The rest of the part was beautiful green lawns, and the park is tiered so all sites get views. The park is opposite the main street in town, which has everything you need, as well as being an alcohol-free town.

PARK ADMINISTRATION

Office Hours 9:00 – 5:00pm

After Hours Check-in Speak to the managers if you think you might arrive late.

Checkout Time 10:00am

Admin Staff
Friendliness: Friendly
Responsiveness to complaints: We had no complaints.
Helpfulness: Offered some information about the local area and attractions. Brochures for things to do are available in the office.

THE PARK

Park Size The park contains 70+ sites, tiered across a number of levels so each site gets a view. There are a few cabins, but unlike many other parks these don’t take up prime waterfront position. The layout of the park is very friendly for visitors, there’s no chance you will feel cramped in at all.

Drive Through Sites No

Landscaping The park has bitumen roadways in good condition. All sites are quite level, and the grass is lush and green. There are a number of large trees providing shady sites at the rear, upper levels of the park. The park is well-established.

Lighting The park is reasonably well-lit at night.

Outdoor Kitchen/BBQ The park adjoins a public reserve which contains gas BBQs. There is no camp kitchen or other communal facilities at the park.

Shower and Toilet Facilities
Adequate to cope with number of people: Yes
Proximity to sites: There is an amenities block at each end of the park so walking is minimal

While there are no formal activities or areas for kids, the park adjoins a public reserve which contains a playground. There is beach access aplenty and it is quite protected.

Pets Pets are allowed during quieter season. Speak to the managers when booking.

ATMOSPHERE

Noise The park is very quiet and tranquil. The town being an alcohol-free zone definitely helps also.

Openness The park has plenty of large trees for shade along the upper rear sites. It is only a small park and well set-out so you do not feel cramped at all. All sites are quite level.

Shade There is not so much shade on the front, beachfront sites. The upper rear sites have plenty.

Permanents None

Fires No

SUITABILITY
Depending on what you are looking for, it is suitable for both short and long-term stopovers. Personally, we would be happy to stay there for months at a time. For families, there is nothing in the park itself for children, but being right on the beachfront is an obvious bonus, as well as being located adjacent to a public reserve. It’s located convenient to a few tourist attractions such as Trial Bay Gaol and Smoky Cape Lighthouse. It just depends on what you are looking for.

LOCATION

Road Conditions The park has bitumen roads, all of which are in great condition.

Nearby Attractions Within easy driving distance to Trial Bay Gaol, Smoky Cape Lighthouse and Arakoon National Park. Trial Bay is one of the few west-facing beaches in NSW, so enjoy the sunset over the water. Main Beach extends 3.5km around to Trail Bay, which is very protected and perfect for swimming, surfing and kayaking.
