Surfers Paradise: Vibe Hotel Gold Coast

written by The Junior Nomads February 5, 2016

“Great value in an ideal location”

Dates of Stay 28 Jan – 1 Feb 2015

Will We Return Yes

Rates Rates vary from $169+ with breakfast in a standard Guest Room, to $269+ in a One Bedroom Apartment. If you hunt around, you may get the rooms as low as $100 a night – try sites like Trivago and Wotif.

Value for money Excellent. We scored a deal in a Studio View Room for $106 a night for 4 nights.

ROOM

Check-in 2pm
Check-out 10am
Room Type Studio View with Balcony
Rate $106 per night
Breakfast Full hot buffet breakfast is available for $12.50 per person (if you pre-book, otherwise it’s $15 per person which is still good value). Some room deals may include this so check when you arrive.

Room Facilities
Kitchenette: Yes. Decent size fridge, microwave, jug and toaster, and all plates and cutlery. Being in a slightly more expensive room like this was well worth it for us, as it saved us a fortune on having to go out for each meal. If you are thinking of getting away for even just one night, the money that can be saved on going out by just spending a bit more on the room upgrade is well worth it. We would definitely pay the extra in the future.
Tea and Coffee: Yes
Biscuits: No
Milk: Yes
Mini Bar: Yes
Clock Radio: Yes
Fan: No
CD Player: No
iPod Dock: Yes
TV: Yes
TV Channels: Foxtel
Air-conditioning: Yes
Internal or External Noise: With the balcony door closed, the room was very quiet. Like anywhere else on the Gold Coast, if you’re sitting on the balcony you will hear traffic and other city noises, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Work Desk: No
Powerpoints: Just sufficient for us. We could have used more, but we do travel with laptops, iPads, camera equipment, etc! Would more than suffice for a normal traveller.
Ironing Board: Yes
Bath robes and slippers: No
Lounge: Yes. A coffee table and chairs are also provided on the balcony.
Wifi: Free Wifi is available downstairs in the public areas of the hotel. Speak with Reception for login details. There is a cap each day for the downloads.
Services directory: Yes
Ventilation: Good
Smoking: Non-smoking in the room. Smoking allowed on the verandas.

Bed
General comfort: Good. Quite firm.
Pillow comfort: Very good. Plenty provided.
Squeaky: Not at all

Bathroom
Size: Standard. The shower was above the bath, and the toilet was in the room with the bath. The sink with large mirror above was outside, adjoining the large sliding glass doors for hanging clothes.
Cleanliness: Spotless
Space to put own toiletries: Limited
Tissues: Yes
Quality of complimentary toiletries: Good
Shower temperature: Perfect
Shower power: Perfect
Water stays in shower: Not really. As the shower is above the bath, there is a glass “tab” to swivel around to help stop the water going out, but we did still find the shower mat got quite damp from water through the cracks. No big issue, we just made sure we put the mat up to dry afterwards.

Internet Access
Availability: Free Wifi is available downstairs in the public areas of the hotel. Speak with Reception for login details. There is a cap each day for the downloads.
Functionality: Works
Cost: 100MB free per 23 hours per person (4 devices). Thereafter, $9.95 per 24 hours unlimited usage (4 devices).

Room service
This is available 24/7. There is a good range of meals, and the additional surcharge for in-room service is more reasonable than many other places we have stayed.

THE RESORT

Size: The Resort 22 storeys high, so not too big or too small. All rooms will have a view of some kind, whether it’s looking towards the ocean or across the Nerang River to the hinterland (or both, if you are on a corner). There is an on-site restaurant, gym and pool, and afternoon happy hour specials are advertised daily.
On-Site Parking: This is available at a cost of $15 per day. Don’t be caught out though like we were, as there is a height limit on their secure parking of 1.8m. Our 4WD had to park out the front of Reception, and you may be asked to leave your keys with Reception as a result of this.
Proximity to Town: Within walking distance to shops, groceries, cafés, chemist, etc. and a 5-minute walk until your toes are in the sand.
Easy to find: Very easy to find.

Facilities
Reception: Open 24 hours
Tour Desk: Yes
Baggage storage: Yes
Concierge: No
Currency Exchange: No
Safety Deposit Box: No
Guest Dry Cleaning: Yes
Guest Laundry: Yes
Business Centre: Yes
Meeting Rooms: Yes
Photocopying and Faxing: Yes

Check-in
Queues: None
Time Taken: 5 minutes
Accuracy: Perfect
Politeness: Smiles all round
Newspaper offered: No

Staff
Friendliness: Very friendly
Responsiveness to complaints: No complaints
Helpfulness: Very helpful
Cleaners: Very friendly. We didn’t ask for their services during our stay, which they seemed grateful for.

Restaurant
We didn’t dine in the restaurant as we could dine within our room cheaper, however we have been to their buffet breakfast in the past and found it very good and excellent value.

Presentation The outside of the resort could do with brightening up with a paint job, though inside is lovely and our room nice and modern. Seating is available within reception if you’re waiting for a taxi, etc. and there is plenty of outdoor seating by the pool or undercover. This seating looks over either the pool or the Nerang River.

Fitness Activities
Swimming Pool – Yes
Spa – Yes
Tennis Court – No
Gym – Yes
Sauna – No
Scuba diving – No
Snorkelling – No
Fishing charter – No
On-site massage – No
Beauty salon – No

SUITABILITY
The resort is great for all travellers – couples, families, business people and groups.
